Surviving the 1985 Election Day Flood

A woman still recalls the miraculous survival of herself and her daughter during the 1985 Election Day Flood, as reported by the Dominion Post.

Robin Moore shared her experience, saying

My God, Jen. Please. Call that a clothesline prayer.
This was after she was pulled under the water around midnight on November 5, 1985.

The flood was intense, with

rain pounding like Hell’s drumline
and the river behaving like
a rabid dog
. The mobile home, belonging to her father Rob Roy Watkins, was no match for the floodwaters.

Rob Roy, a former assistant postmaster of Morgantown, had retired to his hometown of Moorefield in Hardy County, where he had grown up. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed the natural beauty of the area.
