The Waverley Singers will continue their platinum jubilee season with an opera gala at Farnham Maltings on October 26 at 6pm.
The concert, featuring opera choruses and arias! will be conducted by Richard Pearce, with soprano Nina Bennet, tenor Robin Bailey, and accompanist Jakob Rothoff on piano.
The choir was formed over 70 years ago, initially consisting of former Farnham Girls’ Grammar School pupils, under conductor John Cotterill.
The name "Waverley Singers" originated from the address of one of the members, 19 Waverley Lane, where the first rehearsals took place.
It is just over 70 years since the Waverley Singers’ first concert under that name, a fundraiser for St Andrew’s Church in Church House on September 24, 1955.
