Lesotho's Government Assets Search and Recovery Task Team was disbanded after implicating top officials in corruption.
The task team had begun exposing questionable state land allocations and widespread corruption, reporting to Parliament on evidence that implicated senior government officials, including the prime minister, his deputy, former ministers, and judges.
The unit was disbanded because it was "not properly gazetted", according to the Prime Minister's office.
Activists have expressed outrage over the move, seeing it as an attempt to stop the unit's investigations.
