South Africa Debuts New Player Against Japan
Zachary Porthen will make his debut for South Africa against Japan at Wembley on Saturday, as announced by coach Rassie Erasmus.
Cheslin Kolbe has been moved to full-back, while Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel will form a midfield combination, indicating a running game strategy against Japan.
He proved at United Rugby Championship level and with the Junior Springboks what he can do, and we are looking forward to seeing what he can offer in his first Test match.
Coach Erasmus noted that Porthen will face a challenging week learning the team's structures, but it will also be an exciting experience for him.
Japan has a history of upsetting the Springboks, including the "Miracle of Brighton" in 2015, where they won 34-32, and a close match in Tokyo four years later.
