Biotech Nephrogen: Revolutionizing Kidney Disease Treatment
Demetri Maxim's personal experience with kidney disease drove his passion to find a cure. His mother's struggle with the disease and subsequent kidney transplant inspired him to explore innovative solutions.
Maxim was convinced that gene therapy could reverse Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), but delivering drugs directly to diseased cells was a significant hurdle. About one in seven Americans has Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), with approximately 10% of cases resulting from genetic conditions.
Maxim's obsession with finding a cure began in high school, and he has since been working towards a solution. His company, Biotech Nephrogen, combines AI and gene therapy to tackle kidney disease, and will be featured at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025.
Although the surgery was successful and allowed her to lead a relatively normal life, it wasn’t the end of his family’s struggle with kidney disease.
