Former Dundee School Faces Partial Demolition for Housing
A former Dundee school may be partially demolished to make way for new housing, according to recently submitted plans.
Simco Inveraldie Ltd, a developer based in Angus, has applied for planning permission to redevelop the former Rockwell High School on Lawton Road into a mix of flats and houses.
- 28 flats would be created from the retained part of the category B-listed school building.
- Sections to the east, including the dining and assembly halls, would be demolished.
- The site's grounds would be redeveloped for 12 semi-detached, 7 terraced, and 2 detached houses.
The partial removal of some of the building will allow new-build development to happen, which is necessary to secure a working viable solution.
The project aims to balance preservation and regeneration, as stated in the plans prepared by Dundee-based architects ARKTX.
