On Tuesday, October 14, some flights at Kelowna and Victoria airports were delayed due to a hacking incident.
The incident occurred between 5 p.m. at both Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ), where pro-Hamas messages were displayed on screens and heard through the public address systems.
"The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging," said the airport in a press release.
The messaging was reportedly displayed for about two minutes and included phrases such as "Free Palestine" and cursing out the U.S.
The City of Kelowna stated that the cyber security incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
The airport has restored its flight information display screens and is working to restore the PA system.
