A fire broke out at a derelict building in Newquay at around 3:18am, prompting road closures as firefighters work to extinguish the blaze.
Following a similar fire at the Narrowcliff Hotel in July, Cllr Joanne Kenny noted that the Council has limited powers over privately owned property, but can use community powers if buildings are deemed unsafe or unsightly.
"The risks arising from these closed and privately owned buildings was highlighted at the last Town Council meeting – and I have liaised with Cornwall Council management to see if we could restore the special team we had when Newquay was plagued before by a host of derelict buildings, almost exactly 10 years ago.
Cllr Kenny has requested a formal meeting to discuss reinstating the Cornwall Council team and the Derelict Buildings working party to address the issue.
