NFPMC Sets Catch Limits for Bering Sea Crab

The North Pacific Fishery Management Council (NPFMC) held a virtual meeting, announcing two significant retirements and setting catch limits for Bering Sea crab fisheries.

The retirements of Council member Bill Tweit and Executive Director David Witherell result in the loss of 53 years of institutional knowledge. Bill Tweit, from Washington state, retired in August after 20 years on the NPFMC, having served as Vice-Chair since 2015.

He was known for his careful preparation and incisive questions and analysis.

Bill Tweit's replacement is Nate Pamplin. Executive Director Witherell, the longest-serving NPFMC staff member, will retire at the end of the month.
