Arizona Attorney General Threatens to Sue House Speaker
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is giving House Speaker Mike Johnson an ultimatum: schedule Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva's swearing-in ceremony within two days or face a lawsuit.
Rep.-elect Grijalva has yet to be sworn in, three weeks after being elected to represent Arizona's 7th Congressional District in Congress.
- AG Kris Mayes sent a letter to Speaker Johnson's office on Tuesday, threatening litigation if the ceremony is not scheduled by Thursday.
- The ceremony must take place before the end of the federal government shutdown, according to Mayes.
Mayes announced that she was sending the letter during the official canvas of the Sept. 23 special election results on Tuesday morning.
