Poynter Launches Public Editor Project in Indianapolis
The Poynter Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening ethical journalism and audience trust, has launched a pilot project to establish a local public editor in Indianapolis.
Partner newsrooms will publish the editor's independent analysis of local news coverage across the market, serving as a bridge between newsrooms and news consumers.
- The project aims to test the effectiveness of independent accountability and public education in a local news market.
- The initiative is led by Kelly McBride, senior vice president and chair of Poynter's Craig Newmark Center for Ethics and Leadership.
- The project has received grant funding from the Lumina Foundation and the Hearst Foundations.
The Indianapolis Public Editor will act as a bridge between the many newsrooms that serve the community and news consumers.
Poynter is currently accepting applications for the Indianapolis Public Editor position.
