Man Accused of Crashing WaveRunner While Under the Influence
A New York man is facing charges in Florida for allegedly causing a watercraft crash that injured two children on Sunday, authorities said.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a personal watercraft collision near John’s Pass, a historic coastal fishing village and boardwalk in the city of Madeira Beach.
- Two children, ages 7 and 8, were transported to a local hospital, one with life-threatening injuries and one with non-life-threatening injuries.
- 48-year-old Daniel Patrick Grubert, of New York, was operating a rented 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner near John’s Pass when the collision occurred.
Grubert allegedly “was not looking ahead of him, and took his eyes off his direction of travel.
Grubert was booked on two counts of BUI causing serious bodily injury and one count of reckless operation of a vessel.
