‘No Longer Fit For Purpose’ Sandown Lifeboat Station Set For Replacement

Sandown Lifeboat Station Replacement

The Sandown Lifeboat Station on the Isle of Wight, deemed "no longer fit for purpose", is set to be replaced with a new building to continue its life-saving service.

Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat is seeking planning permission to demolish the current station on Sandown's Western Esplanade, which has become "structurally unsound" and "beyond economical repair".

The Island charity has "served the Isle of Wight's coast for decades".

The proposed new station will be a two-storey, "resilient" building, and the public consultation on the application is open until November 7, with a decision scheduled for November 26.

Author's summary: Replacement of Sandown Lifeboat Station planned.
