NHS leaders have issued an urgent "SOS" warning as health experts anticipate a severe flu season, urging the public to get vaccinated promptly.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) reported a sharp rise in flu-related deaths last winter, with 7,757 fatalities compared to 3,555 the previous year. The number of child deaths involving flu also increased from 34 to 53.
Sir Jim Mackey, NHS chief executive, remarked, "There is no doubt this winter will be one of the toughest our staff have ever faced," especially with upcoming resident doctor strikes.
Claire Nevinson, superintendent pharmacist at Boots, emphasized the significance of flu vaccination, highlighting it as one of the best defenses against the virus and its spread.
Boots offers flu jabs for £21.95, with other options available at pharmacies like Superdrug, Tesco, and Well Pharmacy.
The NHS faces a challenging flu season, urging early vaccination to protect individuals and reduce virus transmission.
