Marvel Games' Executive Producer Danny Koo, currently leading Marvel Rivals, shared insights in an exclusive interview at gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show about the game's evolving content roadmap.
Marvel Rivals is launching its first PvE mode, called Marvel Zombie Mode, as a limited-time event. This mode serves as a “testbed” featuring five playable heroes battling waves of undead enemies across New York, culminating in a fight against the ultimate boss, the Queen of the Dead.
“It’s the first PvE mode for Marvel Rivals. It only has five characters right now. It’s just like a testbed to see what players like, how the system works, and hopefully in the future we’ll deploy more PvE mode based on data collected from this round of PvE event.” – Danny Koo
The new mode is created in partnership with Marvel Animation, using assets directly from the show. For instance, the zombie versions of Namor and the Queen of the Dead feature costumes closely matching the animation.
“We have a zombie Namor and a zombie Queen of the Dead from the show. The costumes are very close to the animation.” – Danny Koo
Since the game's launch nearly 10 months ago, the team has been consistently releasing new heroes at a rapid pace of one hero per month, maintaining one of the fastest content pipelines in the hero shooter genre.
Beyond new modes and characters, Marvel Games is focused on refining player experience through upcoming quality-of-life updates, although specific details were not disclosed in this interview.
Marvel Rivals is expanding its gameplay with a PvE zombie mode and maintaining fast-paced hero releases, all while planning further improvements based on player feedback and collaboration with Marvel Animation.
Author's summary: Marvel Rivals introduces its first PvE Zombie Mode as a testbed while keeping a rapid monthly hero release schedule and planning future quality-of-life updates.
