Many children dream of becoming professional athletes, performing before large crowds and millions of TV viewers. However, as NCAA commercials often highlight, most college athletes pursue careers outside of sports. Considering how many don't even reach the college level shows how challenging the path to becoming a pro athlete is.
Now in his 18th NBA season, Durant’s career stands alongside the all-time greats, making it hard to imagine him in any other profession. Durant shared on the podcast Not This Again with Bobbi Althoff that basketball was his only focus as a child.
“I had no clue” what I was going to study in college, Durant admitted when asked about his degree plans.
Durant attended the University of Texas for one year, enjoying his time but essentially majoring in basketball before becoming the second overall pick in the NBA Draft. Unlike most people, who keep backup plans, Durant was solely focused on basketball.
Summary: Kevin Durant’s unwavering commitment to basketball from a young age shaped his successful NBA career, with no backup plan beyond the sport.
