Organisers of the World Club Challenge have received a seven-figure bid from Qatar to host the game between the Super League and NRL champions abroad. Despite the lucrative offer and Qatar's enthusiasm, Hull KR and Brisbane Broncos have declined the proposal.
Both clubs preferred to hold the match in the UK next year. The Robins plan to stage the fixture in Hull, expecting a sell-out crowd boosted by Wigan's 2024 success against the Penrith Panthers.
The Robins are eager to host the game in Hull and explored options such as Leeds United's Elland Road. However, the MKM Stadium, home to local rivals Hull FC, is likely to be chosen.
CEO Paul Lakin said, "Following our Grand Final success, we were considering taking the game to MKM Stadium."
If played at MKM Stadium, the match would need to occur during the week, as Hull City has a home game the preceding Saturday. Following the World Club Challenge, the Robins are scheduled to fly to Las Vegas on Sunday to face Leeds Rhinos at Allegiant Stadium.
Organisers are finalising details with strong confidence that the fixture will proceed as planned.
“The final pieces are now being put in place for the fixture but there is a high level of confidence that it will go ahead.”
