Learner Tien and Lorenzo Sonego Progress in Metz

On Monday at the Moselle Open, Learner Tien continued his remarkable season by defeating French wild card Ugo Blanchet 6-3, 6-3 to reach the second round. The 19-year-old American, preparing for next month’s Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF, has now achieved 28 tour-level victories this year, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.

Last month, Tien reached the final in Beijing and advanced to the fourth round at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai. His next opponent will be lucky loser Moez Echargui.

Lorenzo Sonego’s Triumph

Former Metz champion Lorenzo Sonego also progressed after overcoming British qualifier Jan Choinski 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. In their first Lexus ATP Head2Head encounter, Sonego fired 11 aces and secured his place in the second round, where he will face fourth seed Flavio Cobolli.

This season, Sonego’s most notable achievement was reaching the quarter-finals at the Australian Open.
