Team India all-rounder Axar Patel and wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma convinced captain Suryakumar Yadav to take a Decision Review System (DRS) after Australia opener Matt Short was trapped lbw during the fifth over of the fourth T20I match.
The on-field umpire initially ruled Short not out, but the review led to the decision being overturned, giving India their first breakthrough at Carrara Oval, Gold Coast.
Standing in for Travis Head, Matt Short gave Australia a steady beginning. He attacked Arshdeep Singh with three boundaries in the third over while teammate Mitchell Marsh struggled to settle. At 35 without loss after four overs, Australia looked well poised chasing a target of 168.
Suryakumar Yadav responded by introducing spinners from both ends. Axar Patel bowled tightly, conceding only two runs in his first four balls. Under pressure, Matt Short attempted a sweep shot but missed.
“Jitesh Sharma implied that the ball had struck in line with the stumps, while the bowler also believed the same.”
Both players approached Yadav, who took the review with only seconds left. The ball-tracking technology showed the ball hitting three reds, confirming lbw and a successful review for India.
Summary: Axar Patel and Jitesh Sharma’s quick thinking led to a successful DRS appeal, resulting in India’s first key wicket and a shift in momentum during the intense chase at Carrara Oval.
