Nassau County police officer Ian Fogarty was recognized for rescuing two teens caught in a riptide at Cupsogue Beach County Park on July 16.
Fogarty, an off-duty officer at the time, swam out to the two 16-year-olds with a boogie board and helped them return to shore safely.
It just looked like it was something that could go wrong very quickly
Fogarty was honored for his "selfless valor" by the Nassau County Legislature, naming him "Top Cop" for September.
