A recent report by the AICPA highlights the disparity between education and employment in the accounting field. According to the National Student Clearinghouse data, bachelor's degrees in accounting fell by 10.3% from 2021-2022 to 2022-2023, with a slower decline of 3.3% the following year.
The report also notes that the Big Four have reduced their campus recruiting classes, and automation is increasingly handling tasks that previously filled first-year jobs in audit and tax.
