Currently, employers can sack employees for any reason within the first two years of employment.
This affects all workers, but particularly young, Black, and Asian workers who are more likely to be in shorter-term jobs.
As a result, employees can be dismissed without a valid reason and are unable to take legal action, despite the perceived unfairness of the situation.
Most people would agree this is unfair dismissal but that’s not what the law says.
