Bowling Green’s postseason run ended in the Elite 8 as the Purples fell 1–0 to St. Xavier in the state boys’ soccer tournament.
The match was a rematch of the 2022 state semifinals, where St. Xavier edged Bowling Green 2-1 in overtime. This time, the outcome was similar.
X wasted no time setting the tone early. Still in the first half, “Tag” Haunert threaded a perfect pass to Miles Boone, who gathered it cleanly and buried it in the back of the net to put the Tigers up 1–0.
X’s back line shut down lanes and limited Bowling Green’s chances on goal. Late in the second half, Wasoo Shindano finally found an opening, but his shot sailed just wide right, keeping the Purples off the scoreboard.
Despite the loss, goalkeeper Oliver Gonzales was a standout.
