Catherine Connolly to Become Ireland's Next President
Both the Taoiseach and Tánaiste are congratulating Catherine Connolly on her Presidential election win.
The Independent TD will be declared President-elect this evening when all the results are in. Currently, 31 out of 40 first counts have been completed.
- Catherine Connolly has nearly 65% of first preference votes counted
- Heather Humphrey's has over 28%
155,467 votes are spoiled so far, with some people writing unusual names on the ballots, including Brad Pitt and Dustin the Turkey.
A first count is expected around 5 or 6 PM.
