Surgeon to survivor: SoCal doctor's breast cancer journey reinforces life-saving power of mammograms

Surgeon to Survivor: A SoCal Doctor's Breast Cancer Journey

A breast cancer surgeon, Dr. Carlie Thompson, became a patient after her first mammogram last summer.

Dr. Thompson, who has dedicated her career to treating breast cancer, found herself on the other side of the diagnosis when her mammogram revealed an early but extensive form of breast cancer.

"It's always fed my soul. Mammograms have always been her mantra."

At 41, Dr. Thompson underwent her first breast cancer screening, which identified the cancer that required a bilateral mastectomy to treat.

Dr. Thompson notes the irony of the situation,

"It did feel serendipitous, ironic, maybe,"
as she transitioned from provider to patient.

Author's summary: Doctor becomes patient after breast cancer diagnosis.
