Yeovil MP Calls for More Support for Domestic Abuse Victims
Yeovil MP Adam Dance is urging for stronger support for domestic abuse victims, calling for more funding and action beyond the Sentencing Bill reforms.
During Domestic Abuse Awareness Month, Mr. Dance, the Liberal Democrat MP for Yeovil, made this plea after a government response to his Parliamentary question on the Sentencing Bill.
He asked the justice secretary to assess the potential impact of the Bill's provisions on victims of domestic abuse. The government responded that the Bill would introduce a new judicial finding of domestic abuse at sentencing to ensure better identification and monitoring of offenders.
The Bill also grants judges more discretion to impose immediate custody in cases involving significant risk of harm, including domestic abuse.
