Candidates for Myrtle Beach mayor and city council gathered at the Market Common to discuss pressing issues such as city spending and public safety.
The forum allowed candidates to present their visions for the city's future, with many council candidates advocating for increased foot patrols on Ocean Boulevard and a new police station.
"I think there are some things that need attention and need fixing, but by no means is Myrtle Beach in bad shape," said Myrtle Beach resident Gary Gross. "I think we now need to pick leadership that's going to take us to the next four, eight, and 12 years on an upward ascent."
Incumbent Mayor Brenda Bethune faces four challengers, while ten candidates are vying for three council seats, including two incumbents.
