Senate Passes New Labor Code

On Thursday, 16 October 2025, the Senate passed a new version of the Labor Code, which not all parties were pleased with.

Representatives of the Dominican Republic Association of Industries and other major employer groups were unhappy about the inclusion of "cesantia" or severance wages.
Delivery workers were displeased that a 10% tip on all deliveries was not included in the legislative package.
The term "sexual orientation" was removed from articles covering discriminatory hiring practices.
The word "religious" was also removed from Article 45, section 7, which prohibits workers from engaging in political activities during working hours.

No statement from the senators was provided regarding these changes.
