Sam Surridge: The Englishman in Nashville
Ahead of the climax of the Major League Soccer season, ex-Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge retains an outside chance of winning the MLS Golden Boot, potentially pipping Lionel Messi to the award.
Surridge, 27, has adapted to life in America's Deep South, playing for Nashville SC, despite not being fond of southern fried chicken or country music, stating
"I've sort of had to like it".
The striker has found the food to be a challenge,
"The food is the only thing that I've struggled with – there’s a lot of fried stuff and it's pretty difficult to find foods that I'd have back home", and has to have Heinz baked beans shipped from home.
After developing his skills at Bournemouth, Surridge had brief stints in regular Premier League football with Bournemouth (2018-19) and Nottingham Forest (2022-23).
