The ‘Domestic Terrorists’ Who Weren’t: Chicago Protest Cases Collapse in Court

Since the Trump Administration increased federal immigration enforcement in Chicago, it has highlighted the arrests of protesters, labeling them as "domestic terrorists" or "rioters".

Greg Bovino, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) commander, has referred to them as "unhinged, vile mouthed individuals". A senior ICE official described those arrested as "professional agitators that are being brought in".

"You hear a lot of elected officials saying, they’re out there protesting, they’re out there exercising their First Amendment rights."
