Grammars top league tables as attainment replaces progress 8

Grammars Top League Tables as Attainment Replaces Progress 8

Grammar schools are dominating the top of GCSE league tables after the Progress 8 performance measure was paused for two years due to Covid SATs cancellations.

Progress 8, which measures the progress between the end of primary school and GCSEs, cannot be calculated this year and next because SATs were cancelled during the pandemic.

Instead, the government's performance website now defaults to ranking schools by Attainment 8, which scores pupils across eight subjects, including English and maths.

It usually tops the Progress 8 league tables.

Author's summary: Grammar schools dominate GCSE league tables due to attainment replacing Progress 8.
