Lockheed Martin's Sikorsky subsidiary has unveiled an S-70U-Hawk unmanned aircraft system (UAS) prototype based on a repurposed UH-60L Black Hawk.
The U-Hawk features 25% more cargo space than the UH-60L Black Hawk, according to Lockheed Martin.
The U-Hawk has modifications including the removal of the cockpit, pilot, and crew chief stations, and the addition of clamshell doors on the nose.
These modifications allow the doors to function while the rotor spins, as explained by Sikorsky Advanced Programs Business Development director Ramsey Bentley.
The unveiling took place at the Association of the United States Army's (AUSA's) annual symposium in Washington, DC, on 13 October.
