Defense racks up 8 sacks as Texans shut down Bills

In a Thursday night matchup, Davis Mills threw two touchdown passes as the Houston Texans defeated the visiting Buffalo Bills 23-19. The Texans recorded eight sacks, with Will Anderson delivering 2½ sacks and Danielle Hunter contributing two, while Buffalo’s Josh Allen was sacked for a total of 70 yards.

Christian Kirk and Jayden Higgins each caught a touchdown pass. The Texans, now 6-5, have won four of their last five games. Mills completed 16 of 30 passes for 153 yards while starting his third straight game in place of C.J. Stroud.

The Bills dropped to 7-4 after losing for the second time in three games. Buffalo’s James Cook rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Ray Davis returned a kickoff for a score, and Khalil Shakir had eight receptions for 110 yards.

“Allen completed 24 of 34 passes for 253 yards and two interceptions,” the report noted, underscoring the Bills’ late-game decision-making. Buffalo faced fourth-and-27 from their own 30-yard line late, but an 11-yard completion to Joshua Palmer, followed by a lateral to Shakir for 33 more yards to the Houston 26 with 41 seconds remaining, did not yield enough for a comeback. On the ensuing drive, Allen’s pass was intercepted by Bullock on fourth-and-6 from the Houston 22 with 18 seconds left.

Earlier, Bills standout linebacker Terrel Bernard exited with 10:27 left in the third quarter due to a right elbow injury.
