Acclaimed singer-songwriter Joshua Radin returns to the MACC

Overview

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Joshua Radin returns to perform at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC) on November 29.

Background

Radin began his career in New York, waitressing while pursuing screenwriting. His breakthrough came when “Winter,” the first song he ever composed, was featured on an episode of the television show Scrubs. The broadcast's popularity led NBC’s website to crash as fans searched for the song, marking a pivotal moment in his music career. He recalls picking up the guitar and teaching himself a few chords roughly six months before that breakthrough, realizing that performing might be his calling after seeing the audience response.

Early momentum

Following Scrubs, Radin’s music was subsequently used in Grey’s Anatomy. He describes performing at singer-songwriter venues in Los Angeles where music supervisors would frequent, increasing opportunities for his songs to be placed in television series. He notes that five of his songs appeared on Grey’s Anatomy and six on Scrubs, with many new songs finding homes in various series or films as his career progressed.

“I had just picked up the guitar and taught myself a few chords about six months before that,” said Radin. “I never thought I would ever do anything on stage. But when I saw the response, I thought, ‘Well, maybe this is what I should be doing.’ I just couldn’t really pass up the opportunity.”

Recent activity

Radin has toured extensively and continues to release new work. His catalog includes multiple full-length albums, with notable entries such as We Were Here and Simple Times, among others. He has performed across multiple continents, including performances described as for diverse audiences on stages around the world.
