WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrat Corey O’Connor has been elected mayor of Pittsburgh. He prevailed over Republican challenger Tony Moreno in Tuesday’s election. Earlier this year, O’Connor, serving as Allegheny County controller, won the Democratic primary by defeating incumbent Mayor Ed Gainey.

Corey O’Connor is the son of former Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O’Connor, continuing his family’s legacy of political service in the city.

The Associated Press declared O’Connor the winner at 8:26 p.m.
