Christopher Nolan’s World War II drama Dunkirk, featuring several actors from Peaky Blinders, is seeing a renewed surge on video-on-demand charts around the world.
Released in 2017, the film unites Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy in a tension-filled story about stranded Allied soldiers who face the German army while awaiting evacuation. Nearly eight years after its release, Dunkirk has climbed back into the top 10 on iTunes VOD in multiple countries, including Moldova, Slovenia, and Zimbabwe.
Upon its debut, the film won over critics and audiences alike. It holds a Certified Fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on more than 450 reviews, and an 81% audience score on the Popcornmeter.
Dunkirk also became a box office triumph, earning about $533 million worldwide against a $100 million production budget. For Nolan, it followed his 2014 sci-fi hit Interstellar and further solidified his reputation as a visionary filmmaker.
In addition to Hardy and Murphy, the film stars Barry Keoghan, who is set to appear in Netflix’s upcoming Peaky Blinders spin-off movie, The Immortal Man.
Christopher Nolan has done more than enough to cement his status as one of the greatest directors of all time.
