Wide Ukraine Electricity Outages As Crews Struggle To Repair Damage From Russian Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed his appeal for stronger Western pressure on the Kremlin as the death toll rose from recent Russian assaults. Across the country, authorities are battling to restore electricity after waves of strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Kyiv and numerous regions experienced extensive blackouts, with emergency crews racing to repair facilities heavily damaged by Russian air attacks. On November 9, power was limited in most areas for periods ranging from eight to sixteen hours, according to the state energy operator Ukrenergo.

"The reason for the introduction of restrictions is the consequences of massive Russian missile and drone attacks on energy facilities," the company said.

Ukrenergo also confirmed that power consumption limits would continue on November 10. Its spokeswoman, Svitlana Hrynchuk, told Ukrainian media that it was hard to recall such a large number of direct strikes on energy sites since the start of the invasion.

"Repair crews are working almost around the clock in most regions," Zelenskyy said in his nightly address. "Restoration efforts are ongoing, and although the situation is difficult, thousands of people are involved in stabilizing the system and repairing the damage."

Even before the arrival of winter, Russia intensified its campaign targeting Ukraine’s power grid, gas facilities, and pipelines in an attempt to weaken morale and disrupt civilian life across the country.
