Avalanche Journal: Excitement Builds Around Rebecca Yarros at ‘Fourth Wing’ Night

Brock Nelson first encountered Violet Sorrengail while browsing a bookstore in Toronto with former New York Islanders teammate Matt Martin. Meanwhile, Scott Wedgewood got hooked on the dragon-riding romantasy “Fourth Wing” during a drive from Michigan to Denver.

More than 2,500 fans purchased special tickets for the “Fourth Wing” night held Thursday at Ball Arena, anticipating a celebration of Rebecca Yarros’ debut novel in the “Empyrean” series. Among those eager to meet Yarros, a Colorado Springs resident and dedicated hockey mom, is Brock Nelson.

“I’m pumped for that night, the jersey, having Rebecca there,” Nelson said. “I’m hoping I get to meet her. It’s cool to have that connection now. Last year, I remember somebody was like, ‘Hey, did you see the author of ‘Fourth Wing’ was at one of your games?’ I had no idea. Then I saw that she’s a huge fan. Fast forward to now with ‘Fourth Wing’ night, and it’s pretty cool.”

The Yarros family is deeply connected to the Avalanche, although Rebecca’s husband grew up on the East Coast and is a Rangers fan. Last season, they attended a game in Denver where the idea of Yakros throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park was discussed.

Author’s summary: Rebecca Yarros’ unique blend of being both a celebrated author and hockey mom has created a special bond between fans and players, making ‘Fourth Wing’ night a memorable celebration.
