'It's time to leave shit behind': Mark Parton's plan to lead unified Liberals to government | Region Canberra

Mark Parton's Vision for Canberra Liberals

UPDATE, 3:40 PM: New Canberra Liberals Leader Mark Parton, alongside his deputy Deborah Morris, expressed their commitment to guiding a unified party into the 2028 election.

Commitment to Unity

Speaking to journalists, Parton emphasized his frustration with internal party disputes, noting that ordinary suburban voters are not concerned with such matters. He stated,

“I’m absolutely sick to death of having conversations about internal party matters because I can tell you that people out in the suburbs are not having those conversations.”

Parton highlighted the goal of bringing the nine parliamentary members together to focus on defeating the government in 2028.

Addressing Past Divisions

He acknowledged recent divisions within the party but praised former leaders Leanne Castley and Jeremy Hanson for resigning, which allowed a fresh start and a unity ticket.

Parton shared his perspective on the conflict, saying,

“I think in recent months my party’s been divided by a line that separates people who hang on to shit and people who leave shit behind, and it is time to leave shit behind.”

Leadership Qualities

Recognized as the party’s strongest media communicator, Parton has been seen as potential leader for some time but either lacked support or chose not to pursue the role until now.

Mark Parton aims to unite the Canberra Liberals with a focus on future elections, pushing past internal divisions and rallying the team toward victory in 2028.
