MOUNT VERNON — Challenges come to everyone, regardless of status, wealth, or fame. Hodges Chapel and Fine Arts Center at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

Mark Richt’s Role and Background

Mark Richt, former head football coach at the University of Georgia, is currently an in-studio analyst for the ACC/ESPN Network. He enjoyed a 33-year coaching career, including 14 years at Georgia and three with the Miami Hurricanes.

Life Lessons from Football

Before addressing the audience, Richt shared insights not only about coaching but about life’s unpredictability. He explained:

“Things are not always going to go the way you want and there are things that are going to happen to you in life. Some of those things you cannot control, but you can control how you react to them.”

Richt revealed he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in May 2021, a challenge he faces with the same resilience he applied on the field.

“The reason I love football is that it is tough. You are guaranteed to get knocked down, but you just have to get back up.”

His coaching and life experiences give him strength in confronting this fight.

Author’s summary: Mark Richt draws parallels between football and life, emphasizing resilience and controlled reactions amid difficulties, as he courageously faces Parkinson’s Disease.
