From 3 to 8 November, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, visits Sri Lanka to commemorate fifty years of diplomatic relations with the Holy See. The trip aims to deepen mutual commitment to dialogue, peace, and cooperation between the two nations.
Upon his arrival, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Archbishop Gallagher was welcomed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Hemachandra. During the visit, he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath.
“The visit will also serve to reinforce the shared commitment to peace and cooperation between the two nations.”
Archbishop Gallagher plans to visit sites affected by the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, paying tribute to victims and expressing solidarity with the Sri Lankan people. On 4 November, he will participate in a conference titled “The Holy See’s Perspective and Commitment to Dialogue and Peace”, marking this significant diplomatic milestone that began on 6 September 1975.
