Flemington’s Birdcage Welcomes Back High-Profile Guests
After a two-year hiatus, Julie Bishop made a stylish return to the Flemington Racecourse’s Birdcage, joining a mix of state politicians, gambling executives, pub owners, and television personalities.
The Birdcage is traditionally more associated with fashion and social buzz than the actual horse races, but this Tuesday offered a standout exception thanks to the victory of the horse Half Yours.
David Canny, president of the Australian Hotels Association’s Victoria branch, co-owns the winning gelding, ensuring enthusiasm among those who had placed their bets in Lion’s Kirin Ichiban marquee.
Many of those celebrating had also attended the AHA’s pre-Cup lunch on Monday, making it a festive lead-up to race day.
