Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla announced the devastating loss of their baby daughter in a heartfelt Instagram post on Friday.
The couple revealed that their daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia, passed away on Sunday, October 26th. They expressed their deep sorrow and love in the post.
"Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always," the caption read.
"Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her."
The 29-year-old relief pitcher was absent from the Dodgers' World Series roster, citing a leave of absence for a personal matter. The couple thanked the Dodgers organization and fans for their understanding and support during this difficult time.
"Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them. Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort."
They also expressed appreciation for the medical team at Cedars Sinai who cared for Kayla and Sterling.
"Lastly, we’d like to thank Cedars Sinai and all the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling. Every person we came across was truly so incredible."
The post did not disclose the cause of their daughter’s death. Earlier in April, the couple had joyfully announced that they were expecting a baby.
