A Very Tense New Thriller Drama Movie Is Available to Watch Now

Anemone, the first film in eight years from three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis, has finally arrived in theaters after a long wait. Co-written by the actor himself with his son and director Ronan Day-Lewis, the movie unfolds with restraint and emotional depth.

The story starts as Jem Stoker (Sean Bean, known for Game of Thrones) prays quietly for strength before bidding farewell to his wife Nessa (Oscar nominee Samantha Morton, In America). He then rides off on a motorbike toward a remote cabin deep in the Yorkshire woods.

There lives his estranged brother, Ray (Day-Lewis), whom he hasn’t seen in two decades. Their reunion is cool and uneasy, marked by wordless tension. Over the film’s two-hour duration, the reasons behind Jem’s visit and Ray’s self-imposed exile are slowly revealed.

"A family drama infused with thriller and even horror elements, right from the jump, Anemone has such a strong command of tone."

While deliberately paced, the film uses atmosphere masterfully. Ben Fordesman’s shadowy cinematography, Bobby Krlic’s eerie and abstract score, and Ronan Day-Lewis’s bold direction weave together an experience thick with mystery, unease, and emotional suspense.

Author’s Summary

Anemone blends family drama with psychological suspense through masterful direction, haunting visuals, and performances that simmer with tension.
