Dwayne Johnson, one of the most popular actors today known for films like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and The Smashing Machine, recently shared rare and personal reflections on his divorce from Dany Garcia.
On the Awards Chatter podcast, recorded before Chapman University students and affiliated with The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson revealed how his personal life affected his film choices during that period.
While going through his separation and divorce, Johnson opted for less demanding roles in films such as The Game Plan and Race to Witch Mountain.
“The truth is — and I can look back on that time with real clarity these days — those days, things were a little cloudy.”
“I loved making those movies. I also think I manifested those because I don’t think I was ready for anything other than easy, light, family films that made me feel good.”
“At that time, I was also going through a separation and a divorce. When you guys get married, as a few of you may know, you sign up for the long haul, but then it doesn’t always work out like that, and then it rocks you like it rocked me.”
Dwayne Johnson candidly reflects on how his divorce influenced his film choices, preferring lighter roles to cope with the emotional challenges during that difficult time.
