The 53-year-old actor and former WWE superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently shared how he learned about the death of al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden before the news became public in 2011.
On May 1, 2011, Johnson posted a message on Twitter (now X) that hinted at the news before then-US President Barack Obama addressed the nation.
“Just got word that will shock the world - Land of the free... home of the brave. DAMN PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!”
During an interview on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast with Scott Feinberg, Johnson discussed the viral post and how he came to know the information.
“Oh my God, this is not good,”
he said, reacting to Feinberg’s question about how he had known the news before it broke worldwide.
Despite initial hesitation, Johnson explained that the information came through indirect personal connections.
“I’ve got a friend of a friend who gave me a call. The call was like, ‘Hey, this thing happened.’ And I said, ‘Okay, wonderful news.’”
Years later, Johnson clarified that his early awareness of bin Laden’s death came casually through acquaintances rather than any official source.
