Hemel Hempstead MP David Taylor recently met with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to address crime and antisocial behaviour issues in the town, following multiple large-scale police operations in Hertfordshire.
During the meeting, Mr Taylor urged for Hemel Hempstead to be selected as a pilot area for the Government’s new Respect Orders. These orders aim to empower police with stronger tools to manage persistent offenders and nuisance behaviour.
“Our community is a place to be proud of, but residents tell me antisocial behaviour continues to blight parts of Hemel Hempstead, and residents have had enough. I made it clear to the Home Secretary that Hemel should be at the front of the queue for the Respect Order pilot so we can take tougher action against those who make life miserable for others.”
Mr Taylor stressed the importance of enhanced collaboration among local authorities, housing associations, and the police, highlighting the success of recent joint enforcement efforts in Hemel Hempstead.
“Recent major operations by Hertfordshire Police have shown what can be achieved when agencies work together. That joined-up approach is essential if we’re to make lasting progress in tackling crime and restoring confidence in our community.”
Mr Taylor also praised the commitment and professionalism demonstrated by Hertfordshire Police in safeguarding residents.
“Our officers do an outstanding job under immense pressure.”
David Taylor urges stronger police powers and cooperation between agencies to address crime and antisocial behaviour in Hemel Hempstead, praising recent successes and police dedication.
