On Tuesday, Edgar Wright held a private screening of his film The Running Man at the Paramount lot. The event attracted an impressive lineup of filmmakers including Taika Waititi, Jordan Peele, Ti West, Joseph Kosinski, Barry Jenkins, JT Mollner, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Joe Dante, and Walter Hill.
A script for Baby Driver 2 is complete, though it remains unclear if the original cast, including lead Ansel Elgort, will return. Jon Bernthal is rumored to have a larger role in the sequel.
“There is a script for ‘Baby Driver 2.’ That is something that actually exists,” Wright shared on the Discourse Podcast. “But most filmmaking depends on factors beyond you — timing, financing, who’s available. You’re not always completely in control of those things.”
The original Baby Driver grossed $227 million worldwide against a $34 million budget. The film also starred Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Kevin Spacey, and Eiza González.
Wright’s next move remains uncertain. Possibilities include a Barbarella remake starring Sydney Sweeney, or continuing with the much-anticipated Baby Driver 2.
Edgar Wright remains a visually gifted filmmaker, though his style occasionally leans towards a playful silliness that may not appeal to everyone.
