Fairphone has spent more than a decade creating smartphones from ethically sourced materials. Recently, the company has focused on making repairable and sustainable devices, some of which can even be upgraded. Until now, Fairphone’s main market was Europe.
While the /e/ Foundation offered some Fairphone models in the US, they were more expensive and shipped with the de-Googled Android variant known as /e/OS. That situation may soon change.
Fairphone CEO Raymond van Eck told Reuters that the company is entering the US market with its first locally available product — a pair of repairable headphones.
This move could mark the beginning of Fairphone’s gradual expansion into selling fully repairable and sustainable smartphones directly to American consumers.
