When I first tried the PlayStation Portal two years ago, I was impressed by its potential and noted,
"If it had access to cloud gaming too, it'd be better still."Now, that feature has arrived fully, transforming the handheld device completely.
Sony introduced cloud gaming on the Portal a year ago, but it was limited to a beta phase and a few select titles. The latest update ended the beta and greatly expanded the feature, allowing players to stream hundreds of games without needing to connect to a PS5 or PS5 Pro. Initial testing shows gameplay is mostly free from lag.
The update includes streaming for a broad portion of previously purchased games. Sony states that over a thousand titles are now supported, accessible through a new "Your Library" section on the device. Selecting a game loads it for play, although loading times may vary.
As a games and tech writer, I have a substantial collection of PS5 and classic games. After updating, I found over 100 titles instantly available, including many older games I had forgotten about, which were all accessible through the new cloud streaming feature.
"It was difficult to find any [games] missing from the list."
Author's summary: Sony's major PS Portal update fully enables cloud gaming, unlocking access to a vast library of games and revitalizing the handheld experience with largely smooth streaming.
